An 18F-FDOPA PET/CT Scan is a nuclear medicine imaging test used to evaluate neurological disorders and certain types of tumors. It involves injecting a radiotracer called 18F-fluorodopa (FDOPA) into the bloodstream. FDOPA is an analog of the amino acid L-dopa and is taken up by dopaminergic neurons and some tumor cells. A PET scanner detects the gamma rays emitted by the tracer, while a CT scanner provides detailed anatomical images. This combined imaging technique is useful for diagnosing and monitoring Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, as well as detecting neuroendocrine tumors and certain brain tumors.
