Hepatobiliary (HIDA) Scan

A Hepatobiliary (HIDA) Scan is a nuclear medicine imaging test used to evaluate the function of the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts. It involves injecting a radiotracer called HIDA (hepatobiliary iminodiacetic acid) into the bloodstream. The tracer is taken up by the liver and excreted into the bile, allowing a gamma camera to capture images of its flow through the hepatobiliary system. This scan helps diagnose conditions such as gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis), bile duct obstruction, and congenital abnormalities. It also assesses gallbladder function and biliary tract patency.
