Renal Scan (MAG-3)

A Renal Scan (MAG-3) is a nuclear medicine imaging test used to evaluate kidney function and urinary tract obstructions. It involves injecting a radiotracer called MAG-3 (mercaptoacetyltriglycine) into the bloodstream. A gamma camera then captures images of the radiotracer as it is processed by the kidneys and excreted through the urinary system. This test provides detailed information on renal perfusion, function, and drainage, and is commonly used to diagnose and monitor conditions such as renal artery stenosis, kidney obstruction, and differential renal function.
