18F-FDG PET/CT Scan

An 18F-FDG PET/CT Scan is a nuclear medicine imaging test that combines Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) to provide both metabolic and anatomical information. The procedure involves injecting a radiotracer called 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) into the bloodstream, which is absorbed by cells with high metabolic activity, such as cancer cells. The PET scan detects the gamma rays emitted by the tracer, highlighting areas of increased metabolic activity, while the CT scan provides detailed structural images.
